Garden clearance FAQs

How much does it cost for a garden clearance quote?

We provide a free quote for all of our services, just get in touch with our team now to get the process started.

Do I need to be at home while a garden clearance is taking place?

No, you do not have to be home for garden clearance. You can leave your garden in our hands and not have to worry about being there. This is a great option if you are busy or if you simply do not want to be around while the work is being done.

How to do a garden clearance?

Carrying out a garden clearance can be a big job, but tends to involve the following steps:
  • Making a plan of what to get rid of and how to dispose of the waste
  • Gathering the necessary tools, such as a lawnmower, shovel or hedge trimmer
  • Start removing the largest items first, e.g. sheds, fences and garden furniture
  • Break down green waste (leaves, grass, branches) so it’s easier to dispose of
  • Dispose of the waste using a skip or going to your local recycling centre
    • Or, you can let Acorn do it for you! Get in touch today for a free quote.

Is there anything you cannot clear?

We can clear almost everything, but we can’t dispose of illegal substances. Check out our cleaning services for extra property clearance options.

Do you buy any items within the property?

We won’t buy any items from your property. Instead, if an item is reusable and you no longer want it, we will donate it to a charity or homeless service.

Do you cover the whole of Manchester?

Acorn provides its garden clearance services to customers in the full Greater Manchester area, Yorkshire and the wider North West.

Why shouldn't I hire a skip to get rid of my garden waste?

If you hire a skip, you will have to do all the work yourself, and it will need to be stored on your driveway or near your property before you arrange for it to be taken away. You may also need a permit for the skip if you don’t own private land. Hiring a garden clearance company takes all the work out of your hands.

Will you remove items in a good condition for free?

We don’t provide free collection services for any items. If you have reusable items, you could donate them to a local charity shop.

How soon can you clear my garden?

If you need urgent help with your garden, our teams will fit you in as soon as we can. To book in a garden clearance, fill out our contact form or give us a call on 0161 483 7112.

Do you prune and cut hedges or trees?

Pruning and hedge cutting fall under gardening, which is a service we don’t currently offer.

Do I need planning permission to dig out my garden?

In most cases, you do not need planning permission to dig out your garden. However, there are some exceptions. For example, you may need planning permission if you are digging out:
  • A large area of land (more than 20 square metres)
  • An area of land that is close to a road or footpath
  • An area of land that is in a conservation area
  • An area of land that is listed as a heritage asset

If you are unsure whether you need planning permission, it is always best to check with your local council.

How much does a tidy garden add to the value of a house?

A tidy garden can add as much as 20% to the value of a house. The size of the garden, the location of the property, and the current market conditions can all affect the value of a tidy garden. Some tips for making your garden look tidy and well-maintained:
  • Mow the lawn regularly.
  • Trim the hedges and shrubs.
  • Remove any dead or dying plants.
  • Add some flowers or other plants to brighten up the space.
  • Keep the patio or deck clean and tidy.
