Pest Removal

The risk profile caused by pests varies according to the activities of a business or organisation, so it is important that your pest control service programme is appropriate for your pest risks. At Acorn, we have developed service offers for different types of business to guide the most appropriate level of protection and these are always backed up by site surveys to address any specific risks or concerns at your site.

Depending on the industry you operate in, a pest infestation will concern you in different ways – it’ll either be a minor irritation that you need to deal with, or pose a major operational risk to your business. Pests do not discriminate: any size of business, operating in any type of industry can be vulnerable. Business premises will, unfortunately, never be fully pest resistant. Architects and engineers design buildings for people, not pests. False floors, cable passages, ceiling vents, dry risers, internet ducts and routing wires all serve as hidden areas and “motorways” for pests, particularly rodents, enabling easy access and the ability to spread – from floor to floor, building to building – undetected. As each year passes, businesses can become more prone to pests than before and react to pest infestation often in the only way they know how – reactive pest control. This is always the most costly method, as there is an urgent need. An ongoing pro-active pest management programme, protects your premise all year, and will more often than not halt instances of pest infestation before they have the chance to take form, saving time and money in the long run.

RATS, MICE & OTHER VERMIN

One of the facts about rats that most people are familiar with is that they can breed quickly. A female rat can reproduce every three weeks or so. And when she gives birth, the litter typically contains six to 10 pups. These pups become sexually mature when they’re three to four months old, meaning they can begin spawning their own broods.

One of the most well-known facts about rats is that they can carry pathogens that spread diseases that can affect humans. According to the CDC, rats and mice can spread over 35 diseases. They’re even responsible for an outbreak of monkey pox in 2003.

Certain types of rats can tread water for up to three days and hold their breath for three minutes. Additionally, some species can swim over a mile. And the stories about rats popping up in toilets is no urban legend. They can easily make their way up your pipes.

Rats are known for gnawing on things, and with good reason. Their teeth can grow up to 5 inches per year. They have to chew on things to wear them down.
